PGT Testing in Delhi: Cost Questions, PGT-A, PGT-M and Genetic Counselling
Free 45-min consultation. Report review + personalised plan.
Introduction
When a clinic recommends genetic testing during IVF in Delhi, patients may be shown one price labelled ‘PGT’. That is not enough information. The clinical purpose of testing determines which method is relevant, and laboratory charges can depend on how the testing is organised. PGT-A looks at chromosome number; PGT-M targets a known single-gene condition; PGT-SR concerns particular structural chromosome rearrangements. These distinctions shape counselling, timelines and cost. The right first step is understanding the reason for testing, not choosing the cheapest laboratory label.
PGT-A is a selection tool, not a universal upgrade
PGT-A samples embryo cells to assess chromosome copy number. It can change which embryo a clinic chooses to transfer, but the limitations of mosaic results, biopsy and testing accuracy must be explained. The HFEA does not regard routine PGT-A as a way to increase the chance of having a baby for most fertility patients. Some patients may discuss possible benefits or trade-offs based on their circumstances. Avoid websites that describe the test as mandatory or promise a healthy baby.
PGT-M starts with a known genetic question
PGT-M is considered when a couple has a documented risk involving a particular gene or condition. The laboratory may need family reports, carrier testing and specialised assay preparation before embryo testing. That preparation can make the timeline and pricing different from PGT-A. Genetic counselling is important because a result does not explain every health risk or eliminate the need for relevant prenatal care later. A test sold without specifying the familial condition should raise questions.
PGT-SR is different again
PGT-SR is used in certain cases involving parental structural chromosomal rearrangements, such as a balanced translocation. The clinical team typically needs accurate parental chromosome reports and laboratory guidance on which results are interpretable. A broad PGT-A quotation is not a substitute for this targeted planning. Couples should ask how a non-result, inconclusive result or unexpected embryo finding would be handled and who provides counselling before any embryo is considered for transfer.

How to interpret an inconclusive embryo result
A PGT report may not always produce a simple ‘usable’ or ‘unusable’ decision. Depending on the test, embryo biopsy, laboratory methods and the result reported, further counselling may be needed. A patient should ask who can interpret mosaic, no-result or uncertain findings and whether the clinic has a written approach to discussing them. Results should not be converted into absolute success predictions. The counselling appointment should make clear what is known, what remains uncertain and whether another test or transfer decision is clinically justified.
The Delhi cost worksheet
Request distinct lines for consultation, genetic-counsellor review, relevant parental tests, embryo biopsy, transport to an external genetics laboratory if applicable, test development/setup, analysis per embryo or batch, freezing/storage and a later transfer cycle. Ask whether a report is supplied in writing and what is charged if no embryo is suitable for biopsy or there are no usable results. These are legitimate budget questions; the website should not invent a local PGT tariff.
The medical procedures remain in facilities
Embryos are cultured, biopsied and cryopreserved in specialist laboratories. Even if samples are sent for external genetic analysis, chain-of-custody and identity verification are crucial. Ultrasound monitoring and egg retrieval are also facility-based as required. A clinician may review an existing genetic report remotely, but the testing and embryology cannot take place at home.
Should every IVF patient in Delhi choose PGT?
No. The best question is whether the test is relevant to the couple’s reproductive or genetic history. Ask what management decision will change because of the result, whether a less invasive option exists and what happens if the result is inconclusive. If the goal is reducing miscarriage risk, discuss that separately from the chance of live birth. Clear distinction between those outcomes prevents misleading success claims.
Why the denominator matters in a PGT quote
Some genetic laboratories charge for setup plus testing each embryo; others structure pricing by a batch or predefined panel. A couple with only a small number of embryos may face a different cost profile from one with many biopsied embryos. Ask what is payable if no embryo progresses to biopsy and whether the price changes when fewer embryos are tested than expected. Include the possibility of embryo freezing while results are pending and a subsequent FET. Without these details, a low ‘per test’ advertisement can underestimate the total path.
How a home-supported pathway can help
HomeIVF can help a Delhi/NCR patient organise existing genetic reports and schedule a suitable remote review where available, reducing unnecessary visits before a specialised consultation. If IVF proceeds, monitoring, retrieval, embryo culture, biopsy and transfer remain in accredited or appropriately equipped facilities under the treating team’s direction. The brand should present PGT as an individual clinical choice rather than a standard home-supported upgrade. Verify any named doctor or laboratory before showing them on a local page.
What to decide before paying or travelling
Take three questions to the genetic counsellor: ‘Which condition or chromosome issue are we investigating?’, ‘What could a normal, abnormal, mosaic or inconclusive result mean?’, and ‘How would the test change our next step?’ Then compare the entire cost chain, including embryo freezing and a later transfer. The most useful clinic is not necessarily the one offering the longest testing menu; it is the one that explains the evidence, uncertainties and alternatives in words you understand.
Questions to take to the treating team
At the Delhi PGT consultation, ask the clinician to write down the indication and proposed test category. Ask the genetics team what a normal, inconclusive, mosaic or abnormal result can and cannot establish for that category. Ask the financial coordinator to show the cost of every stage if no embryo reaches biopsy or no embryo is selected for transfer. The aim is to understand how the test changes decisions. It should not be sold as proof that the clinic can guarantee a pregnancy.
A HomeIVF specialist can review your reports and design a home-first plan.
Frequently asked questions
Is PGT-A recommended for every IVF cycle?+
No. Evidence does not support treating PGT-A as a universal improvement in live-birth chances.
Is PGT the same as prenatal testing?+
No. Even after PGT, prenatal screening or diagnosis may still be discussed depending on the pregnancy and genetic indication.
Can genetic counselling begin online?+
Often a report-led discussion can occur remotely, but specific services must be confirmed.
How should I compare PGT quotes in Delhi?+
Separate counselling, biopsy, genetic analysis, freezing, storage and future transfer rather than comparing one headline price.
